Being tight on cash or in a small town does not mean you can’t have an enjoyable summer; you just need to have the right people and the right energy going into it! Here I offered up 11 cheap, easy, fun things you can do with your friends to fill up your days (that aren’t an expensive trip to Miami).

1. Get Crafty With Rhinestone Painting

Rhinestone painting is all over TikTok, and it’s easy to see why. It's fun, cheap, and a super cute way to spruce up your space. Plus, it’s a great excuse to gather your friends for a wine and paint night. Just hit up your local craft store for canvases, rhinestones, and glue, then get creative. Popular designs? Think 8 balls, cherries, and bows.

2. Try A Homemade Picnic

Picnics are a summer classic for a reason. They’re easy on the budget and can be as chill or as fancy as you want. Grab your favorite snacks, a good book, and some tunes, and head to your local park. Setting up a cute spot that doubles as the perfect Instagram backdrop is half the fun.

3. Get Active With A Sports Night

Want a fun way to stay active? Plan a sports night with friends. Tennis, pickleball, basketball – whatever you’re into. It’s a low-pressure way to get moving and have a blast. Grab your friends, make some teams, and head to the nearest court for some friendly competition.

4. Dance The Night Away At The Club

Okay, clubbing isn’t the cheapest option, but it’s worth it for a night out with your besties. The real fun starts with getting ready and pregaming together, and if you really wanna save some coin, pack a discreet flask (wink, wink). Local bars and clubs offer a chance to get lit, meet new people, and create unforgettable memories.

5. Turn Up At The Cook-Out

BBQs and cookouts might take a bit more effort and cash, but they’re perfect for reconnecting with your crew. Pick a sunny day, find a park or backyard, and bring everyone together for a day of good food and great music. It’s the ideal setting to catch up and enjoy each other’s company.

6. Head To The Lake

No beach? No problem. Lake days are just as fun. Head to your local lake for tanning, taking pictures, relaxing, or even some tubing and kayaking. End the day with dinner at a nearby restaurant and a late-night drive with the windows down. Chef’s kiss.

7. Light Up A Bonfire

Bonfires are perfect for those intimate nights with close friends. Whether you’re at the beach or in someone’s backyard, it’s all about drinks, snacks, and great conversation. Don’t forget the marshmallows for s’mores, and bring blankets and a camera to capture the cozy vibes.

8. Make Dinner Together

There’s something special about making dinner with friends. It’s a fun way to share some laughs and enjoy a delicious homemade meal. Pick a menu together or let everyone choose their favorite dish. Add a speaker and some wine, and you’ve got yourself a mini restaurant experience at home.

9. Host a Game Night

Game nights are a classic way to have fun with friends without spending a lot of money. Pull out some board games, card games, or even video games, and let the good times roll. Whether you’re competitive or just in it for laughs, game nights are always a hit. Just make sure everyone’s on the same page on UNO rules!

10. Take Night Walks or Bike Rides

There’s something magical about the quiet of the night. Gather your friends for a late-night walk or bike ride around your neighborhood or a local park. It’s a great way to unwind, chat, and enjoy the cool evening air. Plus, it’s totally free!

11. Belt Your Heart Out With At-Home Karaoke

You don’t need to hit a karaoke bar to belt out your favorite tunes. Invest in an at-home karaoke machine or use a karaoke app, and let the fun begin. Sing your heart out to Beyoncé, or whatever gets you in the groove. It’s all about having a good time, even if you’re a little off-key.
