10 Household Alternatives For Smoking

As a stoner, there’s nothing quite as disappointing as getting hyped up for a smoke session only to realize you’re fresh out of rolling materials. In moments like these, you’re left with a few choices: 1. Make a trip to the corner store for more wraps, 2. Abstain from smoking altogether, or 3. Resort to plan “Down Bad.”

If you’re reading this, you've likely opted for option three but want to do it without risking your health. We’ve all hit rock bottom at some point; I can still vividly recall my freshman year of college, rolling a joint from a neon pink sticky note (not too much on me though, at least I had the sense to peel off the adhesive before rolling). Fortunately, there are plenty of safer alternatives lying around the house that won’t have you inhaling a rainbow of chemicals. So, when you need to smoke and can't be bothered to hit up the corner store, here are 10 household items you can use to roll up. Remember, none of these options are ideal substitutes for rolling paper or wraps but can work in a pinch.

10 Household Substitutes For Rolling Paper:

1. Gum wrapper paper

It's thin and pliable, making it a decent substitute for rolling papers in a pinch. Just be sure to remove any foil backing before using it to roll up.

2. Rose petals

Delicate and fragrant, rose petals can be used to create a unique smoking experience. Simply bake them for a few minutes at 250°, grind up your bud, place your herb inside, and carefully roll them up. It adds a natural, aromatic touch to your smoking experience.

3. Fruit skin

Banana peels and mango skins can be dried out and used as makeshift rolling papers. To prepare them, scrape off the inner layer until they're bare, rinse off any excess residue, pat them dry with a paper towel, and microwave them for 3-5 seconds before rolling.

4. Tissue paper

Uncolored tissue paper found in shoeboxes can work as a last resort for rolling. Just be mindful of any added fragrances or chemicals.

5. Water bottle

While not a rolling paper alternative, a water bottle can be repurposed into a makeshift bong. For a basic water bottle bong, begin by removing the bottle top and fashioning a bowl from aluminum foil. Pierce the foil with a toothpick or needle to create airflow. Then, cut a hole near the label area for smoking. Pack your bowl, spark up, and enjoy your smoke!

6. Toilet paper

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and toilet paper can suffice as a temporary rolling paper substitute. It's not the most ideal option, but it gets the job done.

7. Book pages

Book pages can serve as a decent alternative to rolling papers, but before you rip out a page from your favorite book, ensure there's no ink or heavy pigmentation that could affect your smoking experience.

8. Cigarette paper

If you have access to cigarette papers, they're a readily available alternative to traditional rolling papers. They're designed for smoking, so they'll do the job nicely.

9. Reusable pipe

Not exactly a rolling paper substitute, but a reusable pipe can come in clutch for smoking when you're out of stuff to roll with. It's durable, easy to clean, and provides a consistent smoking experience.

10. Corn husks

If you happen to have some fresh corn on hand, the husks can be repurposed as rolling papers. Simply dry out a husk, trim it to size, and roll up your smoke. It may not be the most common choice, but it's a natural option that can work as a last resort.

By the end of this, hopefully, you've found your perfect rolling paper alternative and can enjoy your smoke session. But please, don't forget to stock up on new wraps to avoid finding yourself in this predicament again.
