Don’t Be Fooled By These A.I. Rap Covers

A.I.-generated content has been taking over lately; I'm not just talking about making your LinkedIn headshot and showing you what your unborn child would look like. No, I'm talking about generating versions of songs featuring hip-hop's biggest names.

In April, the song "Heart On My Sleeve" featuring a voice-generated Drake and The Weeknd went viral. The track sounded eerily similar to the voices of the artists, with some fans questioning whether or not the song was a leak.

The song, made in a few seconds, could’ve easily passed as a legitimate record.

Drake and The Weeknd weren’t the only ones targeted by A.I. software. Names like NBA Youngboy and Polo G have fallen victim to this trend. They each have A.I. covers of popular songs like Lil Baby’s “Freestyle” and Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself", respectively.

This technology is pretty impressive, not to mention it allows us to explore new possibilities in rap, like this collab with XXXTentacion and Juice World on the cover of Your Anxiety Buddy’s “Chamber of Reflection.”

On the not-so-real side of A.I.-generated music, people have been using the voices of fictional characters, with the most trending covers coming from SpongeBob characters. Yup, you’ve read it right. You can listen to Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob rap (and it’s honestly not that bad).

Luckily, I think people are just having fun with the technology and I don’t think A.I. will replace human-written and recorded songs, but it is fun to see new variations of beloved songs. Just don’t be fooled by these tracks if you happen to hear one of them. What are your thoughts on A.I. music? Join the conversation on Instagram @KultureMagazine!
